FSPA District Convention

The FSPA District 7 Convention will be held at Deerfield Beach High School on Saturday, October 19th, 2013.

Cost is $12 per student.

TV Production Club members selected for this event will meet at Seminole Ridge at 6 a.m. and depart immediately.  We will stop briefly on the way for breakfast, so bring some money.  Lunch is provided by FSPA.  We should return to Seminole Ridge at approximately 4 p.m.

This event will feature presentations/workshops on a variety of journalism topics and skills.  It will also offer a greatly expanded slate of On-The-Spot Broadcast Competitions as listed below!

FSPA District 7 On Site Broadcast Competitions

News Package

Description- Teams of up to 4 students will create a news package for the theme provided.  Teams will have 3 hours to write and produce a 1 minute news package for the local news station. TEAMS MUST REPORT TO THE MAIN ENTRANCE OF THE AUDITORIUM BY 8:30 TO RECEIVE INSTRUCTIONS.

Materials needed- 1 Camera, Recording media, 1 Tripod, Microphone, Editing computer with software, Flash drive to submit final video

Submissions- Must be on a flash drive in .mov, .avi, or .mp4 format

Late submissions will be disqualified

Script Writing

Description- Teams of up to 2 students will write the script in A/V format for the news event provided. Teams will have 1 hour to produce a script for the event as if they have shot all of the broll and interviews.

Materials needed- Pen or Pencil

Submissions- On Provided Paper

Late submissions will be disqualified


News Story Editing

Description- Teams of up to 2 students will be provided with raw footage from an event.  Teams will have 1.5 hours to write/record voice-overs, and edit clips, to create a news story from the provided materials.

Materials needed- Editing computer with software, Microphone to record Voice-overs, Flash drive to submit final video

Submissions- Must be on a flash drive in .mov, .avi, or .mp4 format

 

General Rules

Only one camera, microphone, tripod, and computer is allowed per category.   No teacher assistance for any reason, even equipment failure.   Late submissions will be disqualified from placing for an award.

Broadcast Commercial | Submit Online

Description- Teams of up to 4 students (C.J. Bates, Connor Nugent, Nataly Berdecia & Jezebel Perez) will create a television commercial for band-aids.  Teams will produce a 30 second spot for television.

Prompt:   Create a 30 second television commercial for Band-AIds. Band-Aids adhesive bandages have covered and protected cuts and scrapes for millions of people for over 90 years. 

Submissions- are due Wednesday, October 2, 2013 10am. Post your 30 second commercial online via YouTube or school website.

Public Service Announcement | Submit Online

Description- Teams of up to 4 students (Samantha Belohlavek, Kaitlyn Bolander, Alexa Pedicelli & Courtney Doherty) will create a public service announcement for the provided theme.  Teams will produce a 30 second PSA suitable for broadcast television.

Prompt:  Each school day, 7,000 young men and women give up on their high school education and, in many cases, on themselves. This campaign’s goal is to raise awareness of the dropout crisis and provide people with ways they can support teens in their community stay in school and graduate. The campaign should also included a component focused around the issue of student attendance.
